What Is Banoffee Pie?

Banoffee is a delicious British classic dessert that was developed in 1971 by Nigel Mackenzie and Ian Dowding.

The main ingredients for the banoffee pies are bananas, cream, and caramel sauce and for the base is used different biscuits, cookies, or even graham crackers. You can also find some variations of the original recipe using chocolate or coffee.

What does Banoffee pie mean? As for the name, as you can see, it’s a combination between “banana” and “toffee”.

Can You Freeze Banoffee Pie?

Freezing the banoffee pie may be tricky as it will become watery after thawing. Also, as this dessert is made with bananas which also don’t freeze too well, as they may become mushy, it may be tricky to freeze the banoffee pie.

If you still prepared a large banoffee pie, and you need to make something with the leftovers, then I will recommend dividing it into servings and to freeze the banoffee pie as individual slices.

If for some reason, you need to make the banoffee pie ahead of time for more than 2 days, then I would recommend avoiding adding bananas and cream to the pie. Keep them for the day when you will serve. Wait until the pie will defrost completely in the fridge, then you can add banana slices and cover with fresh cream over.

Does It Freeze Well?

Sadly, banoffee pie is not one of those desserts that I can easily recommend to freeze. Yes, if you will make it from scratch, and will avoid the banana slices and fresh cream after defrosting, you may still get good enough results. If you plan to freeze leftovers from a finished banoffee pie, then I will recommend avoiding doing that.

This will be a great reason to call some of your friends and to enjoy all the slices the day you prepared the banoffee cheesecake.

Can You Refreeze It?

No! It’s not recommended to refreeze the banoffee pie as it will be completely destroyed if you freeze it a second time. Also, it may poison you. Because of that, I would recommend avoiding refreezing the banoffee pie.

How Long Does a Banoffee Pie Take to Defrost?

It will take you around 8 hours, or leave it overnight in the fridge. As it will defrost slowly, you will keep the texture of the cake.

What Is the Best Way to Defrost Banoffee Pie?

The best and the only recommended way to defrost the banoffee pie is to leave it overnight in the fridge on the top shelf. If you let it defrost slowly, you will keep the maximum amount of the original texture. However, there will be a difference between freshly cooked and frozen banoffee pie.

Alert! Don’t let it defrost on the table at room temperature as it will take too long and because it contains fresh cream, it can spoil and harm you.

How to Get the Best Taste From the Pie?

If you want to get the best taste from your banana pie, I would recommend leaving it for 2-3 hours to sit in the fridge. In this way, the layers will have some time to sit together and the flavor of the pie will be more intense.

What Is the Best Method to Store It?

For the best results, I would recommend serving and eating the banoffee pie right after making it. But if you make a larger amount of pie, then the best method to keep it for a few days is to put it in the fridge where you can keep it for a few days if it will be properly stored.

Quick Note: But the longer you will leave it in the fridge, the more it will change its taste.

If you will keep it in the fridge, you should keep in mind that you will lose the banoffee pie texture.

Can I Leave It Out on the Counter?

I don’t recommend keeping the banoffee on the countertop at room temperature because it contains fresh cream that can easily and quickly go bad. Because of that, serve the amount you plan to eat, and the leftovers move to the fridge.

Because of that, if you know that you will not eat all the amount of the pie, it will be better to serve as much as you need, than to move the leftovers to the fridge.

Can I Make Banoffee Pie Ahead of Time?

Yes. You can make it the night before and keep it safely one night in the fridge. You will get a very similar texture as the freshly served one.

Pro Tip: If you want to get the best results, then add the final layer with cream on the day when you will serve. In that way, you will avoid fresh cream to become soggy overnight.

How Long Does Banoffee Pie Last in the Fridge?

I would recommend keeping it in the fridge in a well-closing container for no more than 2 days. Shorter – better.

How Long Can You Freeze Banoffee Pie?

If for you it is not a problem the risk that the banana can become dark and the banana pie may become water after thawing, then you can keep it in the freezer for about 3 months.

Quick Note: Make sure that you seal the container well with the pie as it may absorb different smells and tastes from the freezer.
