The combination of honey and chicken is a winner, giving the meat a deliciously rich taste.
Quick Note: Make a bit more than you think you need because they’ll be gone before you know it. And keep lots of napkins handy—you’ll need them!
Let’s dive in.
🥘 Ingredients And Substitutes
- Chicken Wings: The star of the show. If you’re out or want a leaner option, try chicken drumsticks for a similar flavor and more meat on the bone.
- Ketchup: The base for the glaze, offering a sweet, tangy flavor. Substitute with tomato paste mixed with water or vinegar if needed.
- Sweet Chili Sauce: Adds a spicy-sweet kick. Mix honey or sugar with hot sauce or chili flakes as an alternative.
- Soy Sauce: Brings a salty, umami flavor. Tamari or coconut aminos are great substitutes.
- Garlic: Adds aroma and sharp flavor. Use garlic powder or granulated garlic if fresh isn’t available.
👩🍳 Step-by-step Directions
Clean the chicken wings well and cut off the tips. Put them in a bowl and start making the marinade.
Pour in the ketchup, soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, chopped garlic, salt, and pepper.
Mix well to ensure the wings are coated evenly. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes. If you have more time, marinate for 1-2 hours for extra flavor.
Line a pan with baking paper and arrange the wings on it. Save the remaining marinade for later.
Bake the wings at 350°F (180°C) for about 35 minutes.
After baking, glaze them again with the leftover marinade. Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
Return the wings to the oven for another 5-10 minutes.
Enjoy your meal!
P.S. These wings go very well with our recent recipe of potato wedges with dill sauce. Or even better, serve them near some Parmentier potatoes.

🤔 Answering Your Questions:
Should I Use Fresh or Frozen Chicken Wings?
You can use either fresh or frozen chicken wings, but make sure to thaw the wings completely before cooking. Fresh chicken wings are usually more tender and have better texture, while frozen wings can be more convenient and cost-effective.
How Do I Prevent the Chicken Wings From Sticking to the Baking Sheet?
Make sure to line the baking sheet with parchment paper. You can also lightly coat the parchment paper with cooking spray to prevent sticking. This will help the chicken wings cook evenly and prevent them from sticking to the pan.
Can I Make This Dish Spicier?
Yes, you can add more sweet chili sauce or red pepper flakes to make the dish spicier. Adjust the amount of honey to balance out the heat. You can also use a spicier variety of sweet chili sauce or add hot sauce to the glaze.
Can I Make This Dish Ahead of Time?
You can prepare the chicken wings and the sweet chili glaze ahead of time. Keep them separate until ready to cook. Brush the glaze onto the wings during the last few minutes of cooking to prevent them from becoming soggy. You can also reheat the chicken wings in the oven or a toaster oven for a few minutes before serving.

Notes
- For a healthier option, you can bake the chicken wings at 400°F (200°C) until crispy and golden, about 45 minutes, instead of frying. This method reduces the fat content while still delivering that desired crispiness.
- To deepen the flavors, consider marinating the chicken wings in the glaze ingredients for at least an hour, or overnight in the refrigerator if time allows. This step helps the chicken absorb all the wonderful flavors, making every bite even more delicious.
- After baking, set your oven to broil for the last few minutes and watch the wings closely. This will help caramelize the glaze and crisp up the skin even more.
- If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce the amount of sweet chili sauce and substitute it with more soy sauce or a little bit of honey. For those who love the heat, add extra chili flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the glaze.
