As the honeycomb is made from natural products, if you will store it properly, it will last for several years. To ensure that the honeycomb will last for such a long period of time, ensure that you will keep it in a cool, dry place and away from direct sunlight.

Quick Note: Honeycomb may become darker in color over time, and the beeswax may become harder and more brittle. It will still be safe to use, you may notice a difference in taste and texture.

Does Honeycomb Expire?

The honeycomb does not have a traditional expiration date as long as you protect it from moisture, it will last almost forever.

While it can be safe to eat and use for longer periods, it will change its appearance, taste, and texture over time. Because of that, it is recommended to use the honeycomb within 1-2 years after it is produced.

Can I Store It in the Fridge?

Yes, if you want to prevent the honeycomb from crystallizing and becoming hard. To do that, move the honeycomb into some airtight containers to ensure that it will not absorb moisture or other odors from other products.

It may last several years if you keep the honeycomb in the dark, dry place, not in direct sunlight or near a heat source. To ensure that it will last for a longer period of time, make sure that the room temperature is consistently above the 75°F.

  • Stuffed Mushrooms

If the temperature increases, the honey may spoil, and the beeswax becomes hard and brittle.

Quick Note: if you keep it at room temperature, for the best results, ensure that you put it in some airtight containers, as the honey absorbs the humidity, even from the air. Because of that, after a while, the honey may spoil.

Can I Freeze It?

If you need to extend the honeycomb’s shelf life and are ready to trade a little bit from its original taste and texture, you may freeze it.

For that, put the honeycomb in some airtight containers, label the containers with the date and store them in the freezer.

Quick Note: Leave some space in the container, as the honey may expand during freezing.

Pro Tip: When you freeze the honeycomb, keep it at a consistent temperature. Don’t throw it away for a while, then return it back into the freezer. Those temperature differences will make the honeycomb crystalize and lose its texture.

How to Thaw the Honeycomb?

For the best results, it is recommended to leave it in the fridge overnight to let it thaw slowly. The exact time depends on the size of the container and the amount of honeycomb in it.
